Objectives

The Suburban Rail Loop represents a unique and significant chance, valued at $34 billion, to significantly influence Melbourne's future quality of life, economic output, and interconnection.

Project Advisory Group provided strategic advisory services working closely with the Rail & Infrastructure division consulting with broader internal stakeholders from the Corporate and Precints & Planning divisions and linking lessons learnt from external practices such as RPV and LXRP.

Challenges & Opportunities

Covering a distance of 90km, this railway will seamlessly connect all primary rail routes, enhancing the accessibility of Victorians to employment, shopping, education, healthcare, and social interactions. Developed the Digital Engineering Roadmap for SRLA – working with multiple stakeholders to define the framework for the future strategy of this major program and achieve alignment of Organisational, Technology and Delivery objectives. This work enabled the progression of the strategy and implementation of the digital engineering team. To overcome this challenge, the Project Advisory Group team started the engagement with a clear stakeholder consultation process identifying the current state and future requirements for key people in the organisation. This provided a level of detail required to inform the development of an appropriate roadmap of activities, and alignment with strategic organisational and delivery milestones.

Key Outcomes & Benefits:

This strategic engagement was related to other corporate strategies, being prepared in parallel which include the Digital & Data strategy, the Asset Management Strategy and further governance management plans. Challenges around significant scale, change management and compliance with external standards, make this engagement unique considering the magnitude of the investment involved (official cost $34+ billion).
